Layer: Tax Code Areas (ID: 234)

Name: Tax Code Areas

Display Field: TaxArea

Type: Feature Layer

Geometry Type: esriGeometryPolygon

Description: This layer was developed to show which tax code area parcels are in. These are polygon features showing the Tax Code Areas as determined by the State Board of Equalization. The attribute is a five digit number. The first two digits refer to primary areas, and the last three digits identify secondary areas. The cities and school districts are the primary areas; in Santa Cruz County, 01 is the City of Santa Cruz; 02 is the City of Watsonville; 03 is the City of Capitola; and 04 is the City of Scotts Valley. The secondary areas are comprised of all other special districts, i.e., high school, community college, fire protection, water supply. Assessor's office and Auditor's office have books which link the tax code areas to the jurisdictions which receive tax moneys. Maps are updated annually by April. Tax Code boundary lines are adjusted between April and July 1. Scale of source maps varies. In some cases TCA boundaries have been altered to more closely match the underlying parcel boundaries.
